I’ve been clinging to hopeful stories of survival and community. ❤️ Without a few positive stories in the news, watching the aftermath of Hurricane Helene in my Appalachia region would be unbearable. 😭 Schools will not be in session here for most or all of October, but if you were not affected by the hurricane, here’s a simple way to spread positivity this month. 🫶💌

Use these for inspiration or say “positive note” to get the copy and paste format. As a reminder, I’ll be making donations directly to my community for months to come. 🫶

September— counting my blessings more than ever 🙏💔 Early in the month, a friend couldn’t make their appointment at Hot Springs spa so we took a spontaneous day trip to North Carolina. It felt like fall and we had the best time. 🍂 Now this town along with all our favorite spots are gone. 💔 When we left for a road trip that I’ve been planning since my 20s, we had no idea what was in store for our home in East Tennessee. I can’t explain the fear I felt when the last bridge to my family collapsed. Even if we could make it the 14 hours back, there was no way to get to them. 😓Thankfully, I could still reach them by phone which is more than the people in the Asheville area have. 💔 My family is ok. 🙏 They were landlocked without water, power, medical access, or groceries. But thanks to “unauthorized and unsolicited” community members, there is a backroad bridge they can get across now to reach supplies and water.

My sister’s fiancé left for his bachelor trip right before this catastrophe. He got stuck in Western NC and she lost contact with him. I was trying to stay calm for her, but inside I was terrified. Thankfully he is safe now and back to her after a grueling few days. ❤️
.
But my Appalachia community is not ok. 💔 People have lost everything. 1,000s are still missing and unaccounted for. There is no record of this much destruction in our history. My heart is shattered. 💔
.
Many of you have asked how you can help. There are plenty of grassroots groups you can find and support online, but just know, I’ll be making Building Book Love donations for months (years?) to come where it is needed the most. Thank you for your support now and always. I’m blessed beyond measure. ❤️🙏
